SUMMARY:

Stupid Deaths is perhaps the most famous and most popular HH sketch, running through the first five series’ with more sketches than any other on the show. In the sketch people from the past come and entertain Death with their stupid tales of how they died before being sent into the afterlife.

Starring Simon Farnaby as Death

A total of 39 sketches aired over Series' 1-5

SKETCHES:

ABOUT:

When the sketch first appeared in Series 1 the set was rather basic. Death sat behind a desk as a long line of people queued up. Death would then take their name, year of Death and profession (often changed e.g. ‘big-head’). To get through to the afterlife they would have to walk through a metal detector before disappearing.

As of Series 2 the opening jingle was improved as was the set as one by one people would come in front of Death and explain their Death before walking through sparkly gates behind them and disappearing.

Also as of Series 2 Death was joined by two skeletons and in Series 5 a mummy. The format sometimes changed so that Death would treat the skeletons and mummy as judges and would discuss whether the person’s Death was stupid enough. The skeletons and mummy remained with Death into Series 6 where they joined him on his new show Chatty Death.

Death is famous for his bad jokes and sense of humour. Although appearing quite serious in Series 1, through the other series’ he was seen to be less scary than he seems to be, with a fluffy pink pen to write with and someone who is quite relaxed at work.

There were only two Stupid Death sketches where no-one walked into the afterlife. The first from Series 1 where he was riddled with an overflow of medieval Deaths, causing him to quit, although he was back by the next episode. This is not counted as a sketch as t was without the opening sequence or title.

In Series 5 Episode 2, Arthur John Priest came and told of his remarkable survival stories which ended with his boring death, thus Death told him to get out and join the queue of ‘boring deaths’.

In Series 6 when the show came back Death started his own TV show, Chatty Death, with a similar jingle at the start but a different set. There were 12 Chatty Death sketches, covering the 12 episodes. After that Death and Simon Farnaby have not been seen again.
